Responsible environmental management

Taking responsibility for the environment, our employees and our customers is self-evident to us. When it comes to environmental management, we hold ourselves to the highest standards. We constantly measure our impact on the environment through performance indicators. By improving our performance, we strive to minimise this impact.

We believe sustainability is a verb. We hold ourselves and our colleagues accountable for sustainable behaviour and promote environmental awareness among our employees with campaigns and education. For dealing with ballast water, cargo and other potentially polluting materials, we have strict procedures in place.

Our sustainable strategy

Our sustainable strategy is designated to support our business strategy and contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ForestWave contributes significantly to at least seven SDGs, which can be classified in the following three areas:

  We respect human rights and support diversity and inclusion. We provide a transparent, safe and secure working environment. And we stimulate and challenge our people by providing education and training.
• Responsibility for the environment
  We minimise the impact of emissions, effluents and waste. We also minimise the impact of noise and maximise disaster response.
• Drive sustainable growth
  We strive for operational excellence and promote sustainable shipping. Furthermore, we behave ethically and lawfully and combat corruption and bribery

A green fleet

Within our sustainability journey, our fleet receives a lot of attention. By reducing the fuel consumption and emissions of our vessels, we will be able to significantly lower the emissions of our company – thus positively impacting the environment. Most vessels in our modern fleet are equipped with the latest technology, making them highly energy-efficient. Moreover, their innovative bow design allows them to move through the water with less resistance, lowering their fuel consumption.

To lower emissions even further, we are currently coating our vessels with a special silicone paint which leads to less resistance in the water. Two of them will be equipped with emission-reducing carbon capture systems. And by equipping all of our vessels with systems for drinking water and gifting reusable water bottles to our entire crew, we significantly lowered the amount of plastic water bottles used on board.
